April is Fair Housing Month. Increase your knowledge and strengthen your commitment to fair housing in the real estate industry this month between April 1-30!

How can you meet the challenge? 

CONNECT 

Join friends and colleagues at the Fair Housing Month Celebration the signature event during Canopy’s Fair Housing Challenge. 

• Join friends and colleagues at the Fair Housing Month Celebration, the signature event during Canopy’s Fair Housing Challenge. The event is scheduled for Tues., March 25 from 3-7:45 p.m. at Canopy Realtor^® Association and features author, actor, activist and thought-leader Michael Fosberg performing “Incognito", a one-man, autobiographical play about the search for his biological father. **
  • Help Canopy’s Young Professional Network collect 3,000 lbs. of food.  1 can =1 pound of food.  Bring 1 can of food to the Fair Housing Celebration in support of Nourish Up.
• Hop on the bus and spend the day at the N.C. General Assembly.  Join Realtors^® from across the state as we lobby on issues that affect the real estate industry and our livelihoods.  The Legislative Bus Tour to Raleigh on Wed., April 9. **
• Check out the Canopy “Diversity in Action” webpage at canopyrealtors.com for local, state, and national resources and information.  
• Get familiar with the Association’s and Foundation’s commitment to housing and the community. Learn more at the Canopy Housing Foundation’s website.
• Wear your “Fair Housing For All” t-shirt to special events and classes all month long or send a picture to diversityandinclusion@canopyrealtors.com #canopyFHchallenge
• Need a t-shirt? Visit the Realtor^® Store Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., or purchase one online.  The shirts are $25 each, and all proceeds go to the Canopy Housing Foundation.
• Attend Charlotte Crown’s Fair Housing Compilation, Thurs., April 10.
• The National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals Charlotte (NAHREP) hosts their Business Rally: Educate, Connect and Motivate, Thurs., April 17.
• The LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance hosts “Housing for All: A Social with Purpose!”, Wed., April 23.

LEARN 

• Fair Housing Day at Canopy Real Estate Institute.  Enroll in “Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing” with Robert Morris, in-person on Thurs., April 10 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for only $10 for members.  The course is approved for NAR’s Fair Housing requirementand provides continuing education elective credit for both North Carolina and South Carolina.  **
• Complete NAR’s “Fairhaven 2.0: Essential Fair Housing Education” self-paced training.  This course is approved for NAR’s Fair Housing requirement.  **
  Note: Any Canopy Realtor^® Association member who completes Fairhaven 2.0 between January 1 and April 30, 2025, will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a free CE class.
• Complete NAR’s “At Home with Diversity” (AHWD) Certification course. This course is approved for NAR’s Fair Housing requirement.  **
   

VOLUNTEER

• Help Canopy Realtor^® Association’s Young Professional Network collect 3,000 lbs. of food for the 2025 YPN Realtors^® Care Day Food Drive.  1 can = 1 pound of food.  Donated items will support Nourish Up.   Collection bins at Canopy and donations collected on Realtors® Care Day.  Bring 1 can of food to the Fair Housing Celebration in support of the Food Drive.   
• Participate in the 2025 Realtors^® Care Day project scheduled for Fri., April 25. The project is held in April to recognize and acknowledge Fair Housing Month and to demonstrate the Realtor^® commitment to creating safe and affordable homes for all.

NOMINATE

• If you know a young person aged 10-18 who is actively engaged in improving our community, please nominate them for the Canopy Housing Foundation’s Youth Excellence in Service Award. Y.E.S. Award nominations are due by May 31.
• Know an organization in Mecklenburg, Iredell, or Haywood counties that is working to address unmet housing needs? Partner with that nonprofit to submit a Canopy Housing Foundation Community Grants application by May 31.
